Bio

Allen Bova was the director of risk management and insurance for Cornell University. He had been at Cornell since 1988 and has an MBA in finance from Rochester Institute of Technology, a BA in economics from the State University of New York, Potsdam, and an associate's degree in risk management from the Insurance Institute of America. He is a member of the National Business Honor Society (Beta Gamma Sigma) and the University Risk Management and Insurance Association (URMIA). He has held a variety of insurance licenses. He is the past president of URMIA and a past president of the Upstate New York Chapter of Risk and Insurance Management Society. He served on the board of directors for United Educators, education's own insurance company. He has had a number articles published on risk management for higher education and is a frequent speaker at conferences, including URMIA, Stetson's Legal Issues in Higher Education conference, Global Service Learning Conference, and the Association of Governing Boards. He appeared on national television representing university risk managers after the shootings at Virginia Tech. He co-teaches a risk management class for Cornell employees, and he is a guest lecturer on risk management at Cornell's Graduate Business School, Hotel School, and Law School. During his tenure at Cornell, he has received two NACUBO business improvement awards related to risk management and has received the Distinguished Risk Manager award from URMIA.
