About This Risk Management Week Webinar
The presentation will provide an overview of the updated FAA regulations and how this impacts the use of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) in education, research, and institutional operations. It will include information on registration requirements, the control environment and liability concerns for institutional UAS use and for student and public use on/over campus property. Campus Risk Policy examples for operations of drones will be provided.
As a result of participating in this session, attendees will:
- Obtain a working understanding of the new FAA regulations
- Understand the obligations of institutions operating UAS
- Have an overview of the types of liability drones can bring to an institution, both employee and student operations

Larry Stephens

Larry V. Stephens has enjoyed two careers. He spent eight years as a police officer then, after a short stint as an owner-operator of a semi, entered the insurance industry in 1979 as an adjuster. He returned to Indiana University in 1985 and, in 1987, assumed leadership of the risk management area. He started the university’s very successful self insurance program and, in 2005, was instrumental in the startup of the university’s own insurance company, Old Crescent Insurance Company.
In addition to earning the Associate in Claims (AIC), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), and Associate in Automation Management (AAM) designations, Mr. Stephens has been very active in URMIA. He has served twice as Urmia’s president, served on and chaired several committees, served as editor and publisher of the associations published communications, and was listmaster and webmaster for almost a decade. Mr. Stephens also received the Distinguished Risk Manager award.
Carson Lyons

Carson is currently Vice President, AIG Aerospace Insurance Services, Inc. based in Atlanta, GA. Carson joined AIG in 1999 and has held various positions of increasing responsibility in underwriting and management for General Aviation. More recently, Carson was named Global Product Line Manager for General Aviation and now oversees both the domestic and international portfolios for this business. In addition to this role, Carson has become one of the leading underwriting experts of unmanned aircraft systems and is the co-author of one of the first and leading UAS industry specific hull and liability coverage forms available in the United States. Carson graduated with a degree in Aviation Business Administration from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University where he also earned his Private Pilot Certificate.
