By Paul Clancy, ARM, DRM, Director of Risk Management at Boston University.

In September, Boston University’s telecommunications unit asked me to work with them to address any issues related to the implementation of a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system from a risk management perspective. I reached out to my URMIA colleagues through the “All Members” discussion group on the URMIAnetwork and received helpful support. A Proactive Approach to Travel Risk

A Proactive Approach to Travel Risk

By Dr. Daniel Diermeier, Dean of the Harris School of Public Policy and Emmett Dedmon Professor of Public Administration at the University of Chicago. This article was produced in partnership with On Call International.

To appropriately address travel risk, companies need two broad sets of capabilities. First, they need to respond quickly and effectively to any travel-related incident. Such responses need to be both competent and caring, putting the needs of the victim(s) first. Second, companies need to anticipate risks and prevent them from occurring or, at least, to limit their potential impact. The preferred approach to the multifaceted risks associated with traveler protection, then, is one that prevents incidents or at least reduces their likelihood, but also prepares the organization to deal with any issues that do arise.

How do you ensure widespread adoption of your minors on campus policies, and what systems are in place to measure program effectiveness and ensure compliance?

By Donna McMahon, MBA, MS, Assistant Director and Risk Manager at University of Maryland, College Park, President-elect of URMIA, and Board Liaison to URMIA's Affiliates Committee.

One of the duties in my role as URMIA’s president-elect is to serve as the board of directors liaison to the Affiliates Committee. Affiliate members of URMIA are typically, but not solely, for-profit entities, such as insurers and suppliers of both products and services, that practice in the field of higher education. Affiliate members have voting rights, may hold office (except Executive Committee office), and may be appointed to URMIA committees, task forces, or advisory groups. Regardless of whether we partake of the commercial services available to our institutions or are competitors in business, through URMIA we work side-by-side as professional colleagues, partners, and friends.
